New and Improved: Updated projectors with audio

CTLT will be replacing seventeen older-model projectors across both campuses with new projectors. CTLT will also add permanently-installed speakers and amplifiers to these same classrooms. As a result, seventeen classrooms across both campuses will be outfitted with high quality audio and video capabilities.

The Center for Teaching and Learning With Technology

Most of you know by now that the Office of Educational Technology no longer exists. We changed our name and the overall structure of our office effective January 2, 2007. During the past few months, many people have asked me or others on the staff about why we felt the need to change our name. One faculty member still insists on calling us TOFKAET, or “The office formerly known as Ed Tech.”

The restructuring was undertaken to accomplish several goals. First, we wanted to clarify the most important part of our mission, which is to encourage good teaching through the use of technology. This is a point that has often been obscure to the community.

Conversations on Teaching – Transparency

In the last “Conversations on Teaching” column I discussed some educational values that contribute to the quality of online or blended courses. These included Transparency, Organization, Alignment, Universal Design, Responsibility, Co-Presence, Appropriate Technology Use, and Ease of Maintenance. Over the next few columns I or some potential guest columnists will be discussing each of these concepts, and give some ideas for how you can realize these values in your classes.

“Transparency” means that your expectations for all aspects of the course are clear and easily accessible to the students. When your expectations are transparent, this means that your students do not have to guess or read between the lines when determining what they need to do next. Read the rest of this entry »

New and Improved: 50 projector cables for distribution to faculty on Metro campus

CTLT has provided Computing Services with fifty projector cables to be distributed to the individual departments as a resource for faculty on the Metropolitan campus.
